Alpha Psi Foundation – Powell Grant Scholarships

The following scholarships are awarded by the University of the Pacific Thomas J Long School of Pharmacy based on the criterial as shown below:

Phi Delta Chi – Alpha Psi Foundation Endowed Scholarship ($1000)

The Alpha Psi Education, Scholarship, & Leadership Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt public benefit corporation, provides scholarships and leadership development for student pharmacists and new practitioners. The Foundation embodies the belief that investing in the development of student pharmacists and new practitioners is an investment in improving the profession of pharmacy and health of our communities. This scholarship was established in 2023 to recognize an undergraduate Phi Delta Chi brother for their commitment to leadership service within the school and/or community.

Focus: A Phi Delta Chi undergraduate brother who has demonstrated extraordinary service within the School of Pharmacy and/or community.

Criteria:

a. Undergraduate student
b. Active Phi Delta Chi Brother
c. Involvement within the School of Pharmacy and/or community
d. Minimum 3.0 GPA

Phi Delta Chi – Alpha Psi Foundation Memorial Scholarship ($1000)

The Alpha Psi Education, Scholarship, & Leadership Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt public benefit corporation, provides scholarships and leadership development for student pharmacists and new practitioners. This award is dedicated to honor the memory of brothers that have passed and expands upon the fraternity’s belief of “leaders in pharmacy, brothers for life”. This scholarship was established in 2023 to recognize a Phi Delta Chi brother enrolled in their first or second year in pharmacy school for their commitment to leadership service within the school and/or community.

Focus: A Phi Delta Chi brother currently enrolled in their first or second year in pharmacy school who has demonstrated extraordinary service within the School of Pharmacy and/or community.

Criteria:
a. First- or second-year pharmacy student
b. Active Phi Delta Chi Brother
c. Involvement within the School of Pharmacy and/or community
d. Minimum 2.5 GPA

Phi Delta Chi – Alpha Psi Foundation Founding Directors’ Scholarship ($1500)

The Alpha Psi Education, Scholarship, & Leadership Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt public benefit corporation, provides scholarships and leadership development for student pharmacists and new practitioners. Following Alpha Psi’s 50th anniversary, the Foundation was established by a group of alumni with a vision to create and develop tomorrow’s leaders in pharmacy, healthcare, and communities across the nation. This award is dedicated to recognizing the Founding Directors, including Gary L. DeGuire, Wayne E. Gohl, Louis “Rusty” F. Hewitson, Duane E. Isetti, Edward A. Larimer, Flint Pendergraft, Ralph L. Saroyan, John F. “Jack” Schlegel, and Arthur C. Whitney, to commemorate their vision and dedication to creating the Foundation. The scholarship was established in 2023 to recognize a first- or second-year pharmacy student for their involvement in Phi Delta Chi executive leadership.

Focus: A Phi Delta Chi brother currently enrolled in their first or second year of pharmacy school who has demonstrated extraordinary service to the Alpha Psi chapter through executive leadership.

Criteria:
a. First- or second-year pharmacy student
b. Active Phi Delta Chi Brother
c. Involvement with Phi Delta Chi Executive Leadership
d. Minimum 2.5 GPA

The Helen Rowland/Phi Delta Chi Memorial Scholarship ($1500)

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior, was established in 1994 in the beloved memory of Helen Rowland, wife of School of Pharmacy and Alpha Psi’s founder, Ivan W. Rowland.

When presented: The scholarship is presented annually at the Alpha Psi Foundation Senior Award Banquet and the School of Pharmacy July Scholarship luncheon.

Focus: A graduating pharmacy senior who has demonstrated extraordinary service to the community while enrolled at the School of Pharmacy.

Criteria: This scholarship is open to any Pacific Pharmacy senior that is an active brother of Phi Delta Chi

Process for selecting the winner: Selected by the School of Pharmacy Academic Standards Committee

Recognition type: A plaque for the winner, and a perpetual plaque at the School of Pharmacy.

The Schedule for applying and notification of the Foundation/Powell Scholarships 

April 1st: Students can apply for scholarship within software program Academic Works
May: Faculty/Staff Awards committee review applicants
July: Scholarship Luncheon Ceremony
August Scholarship funds applied to student accounts (scholarship award is applied 1/3 at fall
semester, 1/3 at spring semester, and 1/3 at summer semester.
